Willowbrook Man Held After Surveillance Arrest in String of Suburban Sex Assault Cases

Prosecutors say surveillance by multiple agencies captured an alleged assault, leading to an on-scene arrest before a judge ordered him held until a Dec. 8 hearing.

Overview

  • Kwame Koranteng, 31, is charged with attempted criminal sexual assault, two counts of aggravated battery in a public place, two counts of aggravated battery of a person over 60, and one count of criminal sexual abuse.
  • Authorities say reported incidents occurred between Nov. 7 and Nov. 14 in Downers Grove, Hinsdale and Darien, involving women who were grabbed from behind, with one victim touched over clothing.
  • Officers conducting surveillance on Nov. 14 in Downers Grove say they witnessed Koranteng approach a grandmother with a minor child, grab her, and attempt to wrap his arms around her before arresting him at his vehicle.
  • A judge ordered Koranteng detained pretrial, and court records list his next appearance for Dec. 8 in DuPage County.
  • State’s Attorney Robert Berlin described the alleged incidents as random, sexually motivated attacks and credited a coordinated investigation across multiple agencies for the arrest.
