Overview
- Announced Feb. 28, the medal for the U.S. Amateur champion and the U.S. Junior Amateur trophy are being permanently renamed and redesigned in Woods’ honor.
- Debuts are set this summer: the Tiger Woods Medal at the 126th U.S. Amateur at Merion Golf Club (Aug. 10–16) and the Tiger Woods Trophy at the 78th U.S. Junior Amateur at Saucon Valley Country Club (July 20–25).
- Woods called the recognition “incredibly humbling” and said he hopes it inspires young players to value the game’s history and pursue their goals.
- USGA CEO Mike Whan said Woods’ junior and amateur feats “redefined what was possible,” ensuring future winners are connected to a legacy that shaped the modern game.
- Woods remains the only player to win three consecutive U.S. Juniors and three straight U.S. Amateurs and his nine USGA titles tie Bobby Jones, as he joins honorees such as Jack Nicklaus, Mickey Wright and JoAnne Carner—now uniquely recognized across two championships.
