Ukraine Accelerates Anti-Drone Nets to Shield 4,000 Km of Frontline Roads by Year-End

The defense ministry is scaling a funded program to protect supply routes from increasingly deep Russian drone strikes.

Overview

  • Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said installation will reach 4,000 kilometres of covered roads by the end of 2026.
  • An additional 1.6 billion hryvnias ($37 million) has been allocated to expand road and structure protection against UAVs.
  • Deployment speed rose from 5 km per day in January to 12 km in February, with a target of 20 km per day in March.
  • The nets are designed to snag drone propellers to keep aircraft from striking equipment, troops, emergency crews, or civilians.
  • Kyiv is also fast-tracking fortifications in Kharkiv, Sumy, and Chernihiv, with reports noting fresh talks with the United States this week.
