Two Weekend Crashes Kill Women in La Presa and Ramona, CHP Says

Investigators say only the La Presa collision shows signs of driver impairment.

Overview

  • CHP reported Monday that a 50-year-old woman died after an eastbound 2010 Toyota Camry crossed a concrete median on Jamacha Road in La Presa and struck a westbound 2021 Nissan Rogue head-on shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday.
  • The woman was taken to a trauma center and pronounced dead, and the drivers of both vehicles plus two passengers, including a child, were transported to hospitals.
  • Three adults suffered serious injuries, and the juvenile in the Toyota was admitted for a precautionary evaluation as authorities continued the investigation.
  • CHP said intoxication is believed to have been a factor in the La Presa crash, with the cause still under review.
  • In a separate incident around 4:55 a.m. Sunday, a 76-year-old woman on a three-wheeled mobility scooter died at the scene after a northbound 2014 Toyota Camry struck her from behind on SR-67 near Julian Street in Ramona, and CHP said intoxication was not a causative factor.
