Two Teens Charged in Chicago Carjacking Spree That Left Two Dead

Court records show prosecutors dropped a felony case against the 18-year-old roughly 36 hours before the spree.

Overview

  • Chicago police charged Marquese Hill, 18, and a 17-year-old with first-degree murder and aggravated vehicular hijacking in a Feb. 11 series of attacks.
  • Prosecutors say the spree began just before 4 a.m. in Northalsted, where 22-year-old Darwin Tirado was fatally shot during a carjacking.
  • Less than an hour later, 45-year-old Damon Kellum was found shot near the stolen Hyundai in the 3700 block of South Lake Park Avenue, where he was pronounced dead.
  • Investigators cited license-plate reader hits and surveillance video to track the stolen vehicle and link additional attempted and completed carjackings in Fuller Park and West Chatham.
  • Hill also faces a charge tied to a Jan. 10 carjacking in West Rogers Park, while an unrelated drive-by early Feb. 21 on the Far South Side left a 29-year-old woman dead and a 37-year-old injured.
