Overview
- Fire crews were called around 5 p.m. Saturday to 3054 W. Madison St. at Albany Avenue on Chicago’s West Side.
- The Chicago Fire Department escalated the incident to a 2-11 alarm with more than 140 firefighters responding, and an EMS Plan 1 dispatched five ambulances.
- Two people were transported to area hospitals, with one in critical condition and the other in serious condition.
- Initial crews reported flames on the third floor toward the rear of the building, and the cause remains under investigation.
- An eyewitness said he ran floor to floor to warn residents as firefighters assisted multiple occupants, including elderly people, out of the building.
