Toy Fair Debuts ‘Mandalorian and Grogu’ Merch as Favreau Pledges Theatrical Step-Up

The coordinated product rollout signals Lucasfilm’s return to theaters in May.

Overview

  • At New York Toy Fair, licensees unveiled a broad lineup tied to the film across LEGO, Funko, Bandai, Disney Store, Jazwares, Jada Toys, DK Publishing and more, including a LEGO Anzellan Starship set.
  • Hasbro detailed new items and its first Black Series wave, with a Din DjarinGrogu deluxe pack, updated Imperial Remnant troopers and a figure of Sigourney Weaver’s New Republic officer Ward, plus a Target-only Grogu Snack Attack blind-box line and Nerf role-play gear.
  • Jon Favreau said the move to theaters requires taller IMAX-friendly framing, larger sets, upgraded visual effects and amplified storytelling, adding that Grogu has been “leveled up” and hinting at a return to a Razor Crest–model ship.
  • The recent Super Bowl teaser was criticized for revealing little story, and Disney’s marketing chief for creative explained the spot aimed to rekindle audience emotion around Grogu rather than detail the plot.
  • A new Marvel comic, Jar Jar #1, expands Grogu’s Order 66 escape by depicting Jar Jar Binks facilitating his flight with Naboo support, updating the character’s backstory ahead of the May 22 release.
