Teen Clocked at 104 MPH Crashes Allegedly Stolen SUV in Cohasset

Police say the Scituate teen now faces charges in two counties.

Overview

  • A 2014 Toyota RAV4 reported stolen from North River Road in Scituate was spotted entering Cohasset around 11 p.m. on Feb. 7, according to police.
  • An officer clocked the SUV at 104 mph in a 35-mph zone near Shaw's Plaza before it fishtailed in wintry conditions, went airborne, struck a tree, and came to rest in a snowbank.
  • Responding officers found the 16-year-old trapped and yelling for help with facial bleeding, and he was transported to South Shore Hospital; his condition was not available.
  • Cohasset police charged the juvenile with unlicensed and negligent operation, speeding, and a marked-lanes violation.
  • Because the theft occurred in Plymouth County and the crash in Norfolk County, authorities say the teen will face charges in both jurisdictions, and the police chief condemned the driving as extremely reckless.
