Supermarkets Kick Off Christmas Veg Price War With 8p–15p Deals From Thursday

Loyalty cards become the key to accessing the cuts at the big chains.

Overview

  • From December 18, Aldi and Lidl drop selected veg to 8p through December 24, while Tesco and Sainsbury’s cut core lines to 15p starting the same day, with Tesco running to December 25.
  • Tesco’s discounts are for Clubcard members only and Sainsbury’s require Nectar, with prices applied at checkout when cards are scanned or online when accounts are linked.
  • Included items commonly cover 1kg carrots, 2kg potatoes, 500g Brussels sprouts and parsnips, plus swede and red or white cabbage; Tesco also features broccoli at 15p.
  • Aldi and Lidl offer the 8p pricing universally in stores, and Lidl sets a limit of three packs per customer on the promoted veg.
  • Sainsbury’s separate Nectar Advent promotion reaches its final draw, awarding 40 prizes of 25,000 points valued at £125 each.
