Subaru Recalls Nearly 70,000 Crosstrek and Forester Hybrids Over Fuel-Leak Fire Risk

Owners will be contacted in late March for a free dealer installation of a redesigned fuel-filler cap.

Overview

  • The recall covers 69,153 vehicles: 17,446 model-year 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid and 51,707 model-year 2025 Forester Hybrid in the U.S.
  • An insufficient seal in the fuel-filler cap assembly can allow expanded fuel to leak at the cap when tanks are near full in warmer temperatures.
  • Until repairs are completed, owners are advised to park outside away from structures and keep fuel levels at or below 50%.
  • Subaru and NHTSA report 33 technical reports tied to the issue with no confirmed fires or injuries as of February 23.
  • Dealers will install a new cap with an improved gasket and added O-ring at no charge, and Subaru says production vehicles are being updated with the revised part.
