Steam Beta Now Shows Secure Boot and TPM Status, With Hardware Survey Support Coming

The update helps players verify their PCs before launching games that require firmware-level security.

Overview

  • In the Steam client beta, Help > System Information now displays whether Secure Boot is enabled and shows the TPM version under the Operating System section.
  • To access the feature, opt into Steam Client Beta Participation in Settings > Interface, restart Steam, then open System Information from the Help menu.
  • Valve says Secure Boot and TPM data will be added to the Steam Hardware Survey to measure how widely these settings are enabled.
  • The move reflects growing requirements from anti-cheat systems, including EA’s Javelin in Battlefield 6, Riot’s Vanguard, Easy Anti-Cheat, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 later this year.
  • The push for firmware checks has prompted trust and compatibility concerns, particularly for Linux users, and some players will need to enable Secure Boot and a TPM in BIOS for affected games on Windows 11.
