Sri Lanka Names Vikram Rathour Batting Coach on Short-Term Deal for T20 World Cup

The former India assistant will bolster a targeted consultant setup as Sri Lanka sharpens preparations for its home tournament.

Overview

  • Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed Rathour will join on January 18 and remain through March 10 on a consultancy contract focused on T20 World Cup preparation.
  • The hire aligns with short-window specialist roles, including Lasith Malinga’s fast-bowling consultancy from December 15 to January 25 and R. Sridhar’s fielding brief.
  • Rathour previously served as India’s batting coach from 2019 to 2024 and was part of the support staff during the 2024 T20 World Cup win; he is also on Rajasthan Royals’ staff.
  • Sri Lanka are using a three-match T20I series against Pakistan as their final tune-up before co-hosting the tournament, which starts February 7.
  • The co-hosts open against Ireland in Colombo on February 8, with Dasun Shanaka leading a preliminary squad named for the event.
