Overview
- Officers responded just after 12:50 a.m. to the 1500 block of Rusk Drive after an adult resident reported hearing shots in a bedroom
- An adult found a 16-year-old and a 15-year-old with gunshot wounds, and the older teen—who lived in the home—was pronounced dead at the scene
- The surviving 15-year-old was transported to a hospital and remains in critical condition
- Investigators say the shooting appears to have been isolated to the two boys and are still working to piece together how the incident unfolded
- This is the second deadly shooting involving teenage boys in Mesquite within seven days
