San Francisco DA Files Murder Charge in Fatal Nob Hill Assault and Robbery

Prosecutors filed murder charges citing surveillance video.

Overview

  • District Attorney Brooke Jenkins charged 34-year-old Eduardo Cruz Vivero in the Feb. 5 Nob Hill attack near Bush and Taylor Streets, adding second-degree robbery to the murder count.
  • Court records say surveillance video shows the assailant strike the victim in the head with a wooden board before taking his bag, and officers recovered a broken 2x4 nearby.
  • The victim, who has not been publicly identified, died at the hospital on Feb. 21 after being taken off life support.
  • A citywide plainclothes team detained Vivero on Feb. 19 near Leavenworth and Eddy after observing drug paraphernalia, leading to his arrest on assault, robbery, and narcotics-possession charges and an outstanding San Mateo County warrant.
  • Vivero remains in San Francisco County Jail as SFPD’s Strategic Investigations Unit continues the case and requests tips at 415-575-4444; court records show prior misdemeanor drug charges from March 2025.
