Chad Patrick started for Milwaukee and Kris Bubic opened for Kansas City, with Trevor Megill first out of the Brewers bullpen and touching 98.3 mph over 13 pitches with a pickoff.
Grant Anderson yielded a Carter Jensen solo homer that put the Royals ahead 2-1 before Kansas City added an insurance run off Craig Yoho.
Milwaukee managed eight hits with its only extra-base hit a ninth-inning double by Ramón Rodríguez, and its lone run came in the first inning on singles by Luis Rengifo, Gary Sánchez and Akil Baddoo.
The Brewers mixed veterans at the top of the order with prospects including Jesús Made, Cooper Pratt, Brock Wilken, Jeferson Quero and Luis Lara as evaluations continued.
Megill said the elbow trouble that ended last season for him is not an issue, noting his fastball sat 97–98 mph in his first Cactus League outing.
