Revanth Reddy Inaugurates Chanaka–Korata and Sadarmat Barrages in Adilabad

BRS leaders claim the projects were largely completed under K. Chandrashekhar Rao, pointing to a 2023 wet run at Chanaka–Korata.

Overview

  • K. T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao said 90–95% of works on both barrages were finished during the BRS tenure and that Chanaka–Korata underwent a trial run in September 2023.
  • Chanaka–Korata originated from a 2016 inter‑state pact with Maharashtra, was estimated at about Rs 1,200–1,227 crore, and is intended to irrigate roughly 51,000 acres across 89 villages.
  • The Chanaka–Korata pump house is equipped with three 12 MW and three 5.5 MW motors designed to lift water about 42 metres, according to prior project details.
  • BRS leaders state the Sadarmat barrage has about 1.58 TMCft capacity and is expected to stabilise around 18,000 acres in Nirmal and Jagtial districts.
  • Around 90 farmers at Pippalkoti sought immediate payment of about Rs 80 crore for land acquired for the works, as political recriminations over canal completion and land acquisition persisted.
