Pune Driver Held Over 2-Km Bonnet Dragging of Cabby, Later Granted Bail

Police opened the case after viral videos led them to the victim through the car's registration.

Overview

  • The Jan. 17 confrontation on Pune’s Sangamwadi–Shahdawal Dargah Road saw a woman drive with cabby Ram Rathod clinging to her bonnet for about 2 km at roughly 50–60 km/h.
  • The sequence began after her car hit a motorcycle and, while reversing, struck Rathod’s cab, prompting him to intercept the vehicle and jump onto the bonnet to avoid being run over.
  • Motorcyclists and locals pursued the car, recorded video, and got the driver to stop, after which Rathod fell and was hospitalized with a fractured hand.
  • Police said the biker, his wife and child suffered minor injuries, and investigators later used the car’s registration captured in the clips to trace the parties and take statements.
  • Officers arrested the Baner resident on charges including attempt to commit culpable homicide and rash and negligent driving, she was produced in court and released on bail, and reporting describes her as employed by an NGO.
