Overview
- Dwight C. Wells, 40, a mentor and co-organizer of the Bikes/Wheels Up, Guns Down movement, was shot around 9:20 p.m. Friday while playing dominoes outside his Winning and Won Turkey Legs restaurant in Liberty City.
- Police say a masked assailant approached, opened fire, and fled on foot; Wells was transported to Ryder Trauma Center, where he died.
- Wells' girlfriend, identified as Lulu, witnessed the attack and described the shooter as masked, young, and skinny, saying he walked away calmly and could not be identified.
- Authorities released security video showing the aftermath and asked anyone with information to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS, noting tips can remain anonymous and that a reward of up to $5,000 has been reported.
- Dozens gathered Monday night for a vigil and balloon release, riders held a memorial bike event, and an artist painted a mural as the community honored Wells' anti-violence work.
