Police Form Six-Member Team in Kerala SAI Hostel Deaths Probe

A special police team is now leading a multi-angle probe into the deaths.

Overview

  • Sandra, 17, and Vyshnavi, 15, were found hanging in a locked room at the Kollam SAI hostel around 5 a.m. on January 15 after they missed morning training, and an FIR for unnatural death was registered.
  • District Police Chief Kiran Narayanan constituted a six-member special investigation team led by Kollam East Circle Inspector Pushpakumar under ACP S. Sherif, and statements from trainees, staff and relatives are being recorded.
  • Investigators are scrutinising handwritten notes reported recovered during the police inquest, following earlier briefings that stated no notes had been found.
  • Post-mortems were conducted at Paripally Medical College Hospital and the bodies are being released to families, with the girls’ mobile phones to be analysed for digital evidence.
  • Authorities deployed five counsellors for about 80 trainees at the hostel and ordered safety audits of facilities housing minors in the city, while families have sought a thorough inquiry.
