Overview
- During a Jan 7 campaign stop in the Baijipura–Jinsi area, a crowd tried to block Imtiaz Jaleel’s vehicle and damage its windscreen, leading to clashes in which at least one AIMIM worker was injured.
- Police estimated the group at 30–35 people and used a mild lathi charge to disperse the crowd, later reporting the area was peaceful with heavier security deployed.
- Authorities have registered rioting cases against 50 people, including Congress candidate Kaleem Qureshi, as local police conduct route marches to deter further unrest.
- AIMIM leaders accused Qureshi of orchestrating the attack and Jaleel alleged links to BJP ministers Atul Save and Sanjay Shirsat, claims all those named rejected as baseless while Qureshi said the episode was an AIMIM dispute staged for sympathy.
- Video of the confrontation spread widely on social media as campaigning continues before municipal elections on Jan 15, with counting scheduled the following day.
