Pete Buttigieg Tops Early 2028 Democratic Field in New Hampshire Poll

The University of New Hampshire survey captures an unsettled race, with Buttigieg’s popularity outpacing his vote share.

Overview

  • Buttigieg leads likely Democratic primary voters in New Hampshire at 19%, followed by Gavin Newsom at 15%, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at 14% and Kamala Harris at 11%.
  • The Granite State Poll, conducted Oct. 16–21, surveyed 1,547 NH residents (±2.5%) including 602 likely Democratic primary voters (±4%).
  • Buttigieg posts the highest favorability in the Democratic field at about 81% among likely primary voters, far exceeding his current support share.
  • On the Republican side, Vice President JD Vance holds a commanding early lead at 51%, with Nikki Haley at 9% and Tulsi Gabbard at 8%.
  • Companion UNH polling in Maine and Vermont also places Buttigieg, Newsom and Ocasio-Cortez among the top tier, yet no single Democrat dominates and no 2028 campaigns have been formally launched.
