Pakistan Opposition Sets Feb. 8 'Black Day' Protests as TTAP Calls Shutdown, JUI-F Plans Rawalpindi Rally

Permissions and local security orders still cloud the Rawalpindi plan.

Overview

  • TTAP, an alliance that includes PTI, finalized a one-day nationwide shutdown on Feb 8 to mark the 2024 election’s second anniversary as a Black Day.
  • Alliance chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai said the protest call will not be withdrawn and urged a complete, peaceful shutter down.
  • TTAP formed 10 coordination committees at international, national and provincial levels to organize the action.
  • JUI-F announced separate protests for the same day, including a central gathering in Rawalpindi to be addressed by Maulana Fazlur Rehman, alongside events at provincial headquarters.
  • Section 144 remains in force in Rawalpindi until Feb 6, so rally permissions will be reviewed by the district administration and Punjab government after the venue decision expected on Jan 31.
