Packers Hire Cam Achord as Special Teams Coordinator

The former Patriots coordinator arrives to fix a unit that cost Green Bay games last season.

Overview

  • Green Bay announced on Feb. 27 that Cam Achord, 39, will replace Rich Bisaccia, who stepped down on Feb. 17 after four seasons.
  • Achord was the Patriots’ special teams coordinator from 2020-23 after serving as an assistant in 2018-19, was on the Super Bowl LIII staff, and led a unit ranked No. 1 by Rick Gosselin in 2020.
  • He spent the past two seasons as the Giants’ assistant special teams coach, with New York averaging 27.7 yards per kickoff return in 2025 to rank fifth in the NFL.
  • Coach Matt LaFleur conducted a late search that included interviews with Devin Fitzsimmons, Tom McMahon, Sam Sewell and Kyle Wilber, and GM Brian Gutekunst said Bisaccia’s exit surprised the organization.
  • The hire targets improvement for a group that suffered decisive errors last season, including a blocked potential winning field goal, a blocked extra point returned for two points, and a failed onside-kick recovery that contributed to losses and an early playoff exit.
