Overview
- The fire broke out around 8:57 p.m. Tuesday at 1229 N. Taylor Ave. near North Avenue on the Oak Park–Galewood border.
- Oak Park Fire Chief JT Terry said the building was vacant, and a complete search found no one inside with no major injuries reported.
- Because of the scale, crews from Elmhurst, Oak Brook and the Chicago Fire Department provided mutual aid.
- Firefighters brought the blaze under control overnight and were monitoring hotspots and cleanup Wednesday morning.
- North Avenue remained closed and CTA rerouted #72 buses via Ridgeland, Division and Austin during the response.
