Overview
- Metro says the Orange Line returned to normal service at about 2:37 p.m. Wednesday after earlier single tracking that began around 1:40 p.m.
- A car traveling westbound on I-66 left the roadway near the Cedar Lane overpass around 11:24 a.m. and landed on the tracks by Dunn Loring–Merrifield.
- Fairfax County Fire and Rescue reported the car caught fire, which crews extinguished, and one person was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
- Service was halted between West Falls Church and Vienna for more than two hours, and Metro directed riders to use Route F50 as an alternate during the disruption.
- The westbound I-66 express/HOV lanes were temporarily closed and later reopened, and photos from the scene showed a breach in the fence separating the highway from the tracks.
