NWS Confirms EF1 Tornado in Kendall and Comal Counties With 110 mph Winds

The storm survey clarifies which damage came from the twister versus straight-line winds.

Overview

  • The tornado touched down around 11:35 p.m. near Kendalia, tracked 20.1 miles into Comal County, and remained on the ground for 23 minutes with a maximum width near 300 yards.
  • The National Weather Service issued a warning at 11:40 p.m., roughly five minutes after touchdown, giving nearby neighborhoods about 5 to 15 minutes of lead time.
  • Surveyors estimated peak winds at 110 mph and reported no injuries as they documented localized infrastructure damage and roof losses.
  • Five electrical poles and a light pole were knocked down near U.S. 281 and FM 306 as the track moved through Indian Hill, Tanglewood Trail, and northern Mystic Shores near Canyon Lake.
  • Separate straight-line winds caused some of the most severe roof damage, including a home with its roof hurled about 100 yards and notable losses on Sundown Trail, while residents spent Monday clearing debris.
