No Other Land’ Co-Director Says Same Settler Led New Assault on His Family in Susya

Ballal says troops failed to enforce a recent court order closing the area to non-residents.

Overview

  • Hamdan Ballal reported a Feb. 15–16 incident in which his brother was hospitalized and four relatives were detained after a raid at the family home in the West Bank village of Susya.
  • Al Jazeera reported that the detained relatives, including two brothers, a nephew and a cousin, were later released after being held for several hours.
  • The alleged assailant was identified as Shem Tov Lusky, whom Ballal has also accused of attacking him shortly after the film’s Oscar win in 2025.
  • Ballal said the army arrived before police, raided the house and made arrests, alleging that security forces did not uphold a court order issued two weeks earlier restricting non-residents near his home.
  • The incident was reported shortly after Israel’s government approved resuming West Bank land registration for the first time since 1967, a move critics warn could formalize dispossession of Palestinians.
