Overview
- The crash occurred around 12:18 a.m. in the 7700 block of Oakton Street in Niles.
- A 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe traveling west left the roadway and struck a speed-limit sign and a tree on the north side of the street.
- Officers found the driver unconscious, performed CPR, and paramedics took him to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, where he died shortly after.
- A 51-year-old woman who was a passenger was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and was expected to recover.
- Niles police, assisted by the Major Crash Assistance Team, are investigating, and Oakton Street was temporarily closed between Milwaukee and Prospect during the on-scene work.
