Nearly 195,000 PurSteam Travel Steamers Recalled Nationwide Over Burn Hazard

CPSC says the devices can expel hot water, prompting Aterian to offer full refunds via a proof-of-destruction process.

Overview

  • Two models are included: about 75,400 Elite Travel Steamers (PS-510) and 119,000 Mighty Lil Steamers (PS-550) sold online since December 2020.
  • Officials have logged 472 reports of hot water discharge and 54 burn injuries across both models, including two second-degree burns.
  • Owners are told to stop using the products and file a claim at recall.pursteam.com, then cut the power cord and upload a photo to receive a refund.
  • Some consumers may be asked to return the steamer using a prepaid mailer, and they should keep the unit until the refund is issued.
  • The units were made in China, imported by Aterian of Summit, N.J., sold on Pursteam.com, Amazon and Walmart for about $10–$35, and eligibility is verified by specific YYMM date codes on the bottom; CPSC recall number is 26-250.
