Mumbai: Sena UBT Corporator Milind Vaidya Booked Over Unauthorised Victory Rally

Police say the procession went ahead despite repeated denials under prohibitory orders in force through January 26.

Overview

  • Mahim police registered a case against newly elected corporator Milind Vaidya and more than 40 others for unlawful assembly and violating prohibitory orders.
  • The rally took place in Mahim on January 24 between 5:30 pm and 8:00 pm and, according to police, used loudspeakers and firecrackers.
  • Authorities had refused permission for victory processions on January 18, with fresh applications on January 22 and 24 also rejected.
  • Police named Vinay Akre, Avirat Shinde, Santosh Surve and Deepak Sawant among the accused alongside Vaidya.
  • Vaidya won BMC Ward 182 with 14,248 votes, defeating BJP’s Rajan Parkar and independent candidates, and a video of the procession was posted on his official social media with no public response from his team so far.
