Overview
- The crash happened around 5:20 a.m. Sunday on northbound State Route 17 north of Santa’s Village Road in Scotts Valley.
- CHP reports a gray 2012 Nissan 370Z left the roadway, struck a sign and a call box, and came to rest in the left lane.
- A 37-year-old San Jose man on a black 2025 Yamaha motorcycle then hit the rear of the Nissan, was ejected, and died at the scene despite lifesaving efforts; he was wearing a helmet.
- The Nissan’s driver fled and has not been identified, and investigators are asking anyone with information to call CHP Santa Cruz at 831-219-0200 or the CHP Monterey Communications Center at 831-796-2160.
- Northbound lanes were closed for several hours during the investigation, and whether impairment played a role has not been determined.
