Lamborghini Cancels Lanzador EV, Will Launch Plug-In Hybrid Instead

The CEO cites near-zero buyer interest in battery-only supercars to explain a pivot to plug-in hybrids.

Overview

  • Lamborghini confirmed it has dropped the Lanzador as a battery-electric model and plans an all plug-in hybrid lineup by 2030.
  • CEO Stephan Winkelmann said the decision followed more than a year of internal analysis with customers, dealers and market data, concluding late last year.
  • The next-generation Urus will also remain a plug-in hybrid, protecting the brand’s bestselling model that makes up about 60% of deliveries.
  • Winkelmann argued current EVs lack the sound and feedback Lamborghini buyers expect and called heavy EV spending an “expensive hobby” given market and regulatory uncertainty.
  • The company left the door open to a future BEV if conditions change, as some rivals continue with electric plans, highlighting diverging strategies in luxury performance cars.
