Overview
- Authorities say the crash happened around 8:50 a.m. Wednesday in San Carlos Park near Fort Myers when a black Jaguar rear-ended a Lee County school bus and became lodged underneath.
- No students were on board; the bus driver was taken to a hospital as a precaution, and only minor injuries were reported with one person treated at the scene.
- The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said the Jaguar driver failed to slow as the bus approached a stop sign and issued a citation for following too closely.
- San Carlos Park Fire Protection & Rescue crews lifted the bus to free the car, and the intersection at Highway 40 and Whispering Pine Way was closed for cleanup, causing delays.
- Sheriff Carmine Marceno said patrols have been increased in the area under the BusPatrol safety initiative as video of the collision circulates widely online.
