The wounded suspect remains hospitalized pending booking on outstanding burglary warrants.

Overview

  • Police identified the wounded suspect as 25-year-old Freddy Magaña Gonzales of Redwood City, who sustained a non-life-threatening injury on Feb. 14.
  • Sgt. James Taylor, a 17-year Fremont police veteran assigned to the crime reduction unit, fired the shot after being bitten by a police dog and was treated for the bite.
  • The incident occurred about 9:45 p.m. near Blacow Road and Mattos Court during an attempted arrest following a vehicle pursuit in which four suspects fled on foot.
  • Three other suspects were arrested at the scene and later transferred to other Bay Area agencies for booking on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property, and possession of burglary tools.
  • Fremont police say they will seek additional charges against all four suspects, including reckless evasion, firearm offenses, resisting arrest, and theft, while the department continues its investigation under state disclosure rules.
