ECB Publishes Hundred Auction Lists With 14 Pakistan Players After Non-Discrimination Pledge

Next week’s auctions will test teams’ promise to pick on merit following reports that IPL-linked franchises were shunning Pakistan cricketers.

Overview

  • The ECB and all eight franchises said players "must not be excluded on the grounds of their nationality" and selections will hinge on performance, availability and team needs.
  • The final pools were trimmed to 247 men and 178 women from the initial registrations, with a single team nomination sufficient to reach the longlist.
  • Fourteen Pakistan men were named, led by marquee pick Haris Rauf at a £100,000 reserve, with Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan and Usman Tariq also included.
  • Only two Pakistan women, Fatima Sana and Sadia Iqbal, appear on the women’s longlist.
  • Record-breaking T20 World Cup opener Sahibzada Farhan was left off the list, as Welsh Fire co-owner Sanjay Govil said he "won't discriminate" and the auctions take place March 11–12 in London.
