Drew Cookenmaster, 29, Killed in I-65 Rear-End Crash in Hardin County

Police cite a prior crash near mile marker 106 that slowed traffic ahead of the collision.

  • Kentucky State Police say the two-vehicle crash occurred around 9:45–9:46 a.m. Monday near the 103-mile marker on northbound I-65 by Lebanon Junction.
  • A Hyundai Elantra driven by Cookenmaster struck the rear of a tractor-trailer after traffic slowed from an earlier incident, according to a preliminary investigation.
  • Cookenmaster, of Hodgenville, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hardin County coroner.
  • The tractor-trailer driver, identified as 52-year-old Shakisha Brewington of Schertz, Texas, was not injured.
  • Northbound lanes at the Joe Prather exit were closed for about three hours for accident reconstruction, and KSP Post 4 reports the investigation remains ongoing.
