Prosecutors described a robbery involving a stolen Maserati and newly detailed evidence as the case advances in Cook County court.

Overview

  • Prosecutors said Muhammad Thomas, 35, arrived at Joyeria Angelo on Nov. 8, 2025, with two juveniles in a stolen Maserati, propped the door open, broke display cases and fled with jewelry.
  • During the struggle outside, Thomas allegedly shot 25-year-old Luis Alamo, and a juvenile accomplice allegedly shot 63-year-old Faustino Alamo; both men were pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital.
  • The Maserati was later found burned, and investigators reported recovering Thomas’ DNA and fingerprints from the store and the vehicle, according to prosecutors.
  • The scheduled detention hearing on Friday was postponed after Thomas was hospitalized, with the judge resetting the hearing for Tuesday to consider detaining him.
  • Thomas was arrested Feb. 24 in St. Louis with help from the U.S. Marshals and extradited to Chicago, where he faces nine felonies including two counts of first-degree murder, multiple armed robbery and aggravated battery counts, attempted vehicular hijacking and burglary.
