Overview
- After reports of U.S.-Israeli strikes killing Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, an account identifying as Columbia University Apartheid Divest posted “Marg bar Amrika” (“Death to America”) on X.
- X removed the post and limited the account until the deletion, and the profile has since been restricted or removed, according to reports.
- The account later said it deleted the tweet to regain access and added that “the sentiment still stands.”
- Columbia said the group is neither recognized nor affiliated, reported no evidence that current students or employees control the account, and referred the matter to law enforcement.
- The university has pursued cease-and-desist and takedown efforts over CUAD-branded accounts as backlash grew from alumni and public figures demanding dismissals or deportations.
