Overview
- The PatientAI Collaborative unveiled the AI Care Standard and a companion Evaluation Framework on Feb. 11 to guide chatbots, portal messages, care navigation tools and automated outreach.
- The Standard converts broad AI ethics into 10 operational pillars that address safety, equity, governance and real-world usability for patients, families and care teams.
- The Evaluation Framework provides a questions-driven audit to review how AI-generated patient communication is designed, governed, monitored and experienced in practice.
- The initiative is co-chaired by Raj Ratwani, PhD, of MedStar Health Research Institute and M. Bridget Duffy, MD, former Cleveland Clinic chief patient experience officer, with contributors from Highmark Health, Stanford Medicine, HCA Healthcare, Hackensack Meridian Health, Vital and MATTER.
- Developers cite patient-safety concerns highlighted by ECRI and promote rapid adoption by health systems and digital health companies; the effort is industry-led without regulatory endorsement.
