Overview
- Camacho, 18, of Georgia, made his first federal court appearance on a charge of unlawfully carrying a firearm on U.S. Capitol grounds and will remain detained pending a detention hearing in early March.
- According to a criminal complaint, officers saw him running toward the west front of the Capitol with a shotgun, ordered him to drop it, and he complied; no injuries were reported.
- The shotgun was loaded with seven rounds in the tube and one in the chamber with the safety off, and agents documented 17 additional shells on the stock and a fixed-blade knife along his route.
- Police say he wore a tactical vest and gloves; a Kevlar helmet and gas mask were recovered from a white Mercedes SUV parked nearby that was not registered to him.
- Capitol Police report no ongoing threat and say the motive remains under investigation, request public videos, and credit recent active-shooter drills for the rapid response.
