Overview
- The BCA identified Officers Christian Lausen (four years), Francisco Martinez (three), and Wahid Gul (five) as those who fired, and all are on critical incident leave.
- Police responded to the 5600 block of Brooklyn Boulevard for reports of a man with a gun; Eddie Duncan fired and hit a squad car before officers returned fire.
- Duncan ran a short distance, collapsed, received medical aid, and later died at a hospital; no officers were injured.
- Investigators recovered a handgun and spent casings, and body-worn as well as in-car cameras captured portions of the encounter.
- Earlier that afternoon, Minneapolis police say Duncan killed cousins Xavier Barnett, 14, and Akwame Stewart, 23, after posting bail the same day following a Feb. 15 arrest for fleeing police and possessing an illegally modified handgun; the BCA probe will be forwarded to the Hennepin County Attorney for review.
