Argentina Sets March 23, 2026 as Optional Bridge Day, Creating Four-Day Weekend

The government used its legal authority to promote tourism, with private employers free to grant the day off at ordinary pay if work proceeds.

Overview

  • Resolution 164/2025, published in the Boletín Oficial, designates Monday, March 23 as a día no laborable to link with the inamovible holiday on Tuesday, March 24 (Día de la Memoria).
  • The move creates a four-day stretch from Saturday, March 21 to Tuesday, March 24 for those who observe the optional day in the private sector.
  • Labor rules differ: work on March 24 requires double pay under the Labor Contract Law, while work on March 23 is paid at the normal rate and the employer decides whether operations pause; public administration typically grants asueto.
  • The 2026 calendar also sets two additional bridge days for tourism on Friday, July 10 and Monday, December 7 under Law 27.399’s allowance for up to three such days.
  • Semana Santa runs March 29 to April 5, with April 2 (Malvinas Day, an inamovible feriado) aligning with Jueves Santo and April 3 as Viernes Santo, forming another long weekend from Thursday, April 2 to Sunday, April 5.
