Apple Issues Final Reminder: Upgrade Home by Feb. 10 or Lose Access

Apple warns holdouts may lose Home app access, accessory control, automations, security updates.

Overview

  • Apple sent a final customer email on Feb. 3 instructing users to migrate to the newer Home architecture before the Feb. 10 cutoff.
  • Devices that stay on the old setup risk losing access in the Home app, seeing accessories and automations fail, and missing performance and security fixes.
  • The updated Home requires at least iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2, macOS 13.1, tvOS 16.2, and watchOS 9.2.
  • Users can update via Home app > More > Home Settings > Software Update > Update Now, and all homes owned by the user update simultaneously; a status reading “This home and all accessories are up to date” means no action is needed.
  • Apple’s 2022 Home architecture promises greater reliability and unlocks features such as guest access, Activity History, and robot vacuum support.
